SUMMARY

Life on a sugar plantation on Barbados in 1808; a heady mix of sexual intrigue, piercing choral music and extreme racial tension. Set between the Abolition of the Slave Trade Act and the abolition of slavery, ‘Muscovado’ is about the tragedy of knowing freedom but never experiencing it; of finding beauty in the darkest shadows.

The production is set against the backdrop of a rich and atmospheric soundtrack played and sung live. Scenes are sewn through with an original musical score by emerging composer for theatre and TV James Reynolds (ITV, BBC, C4) that is a combination of classical part song, soulful negro spirituals and an exotic soundscape of mosquitoes, drums and whips.

Admission: £8(£6)
