SUMMARY

After a critically acclaimed performance in Paperbark Theatre's award-winning production of This is Where We Live (★★★★★ & Critics’ Pick in TimeOut New York), Shaelee Rooke is back with her debut solo show Shaedates: or How I Learned to Love Myself.

Shae has a boyfriend but she knows he’s not the one. Then she notices someone else… someone different… someone who’s always been there… and her life begins to change.

Blending comedy, clowning and original music, this surreal tale of self-discovery channels the spirit of incisive comedian Katherine Ryan, beloved clown Stuart Bowden and mischievous comedy actor Noel Fielding.

In the media and beyond self-love is often mocked, but Shaedates treads the precarious line between hilarity and profundity. It draws on all the clichés of modern dating to say something surprisingly wonderful in amongst jokes about novelty weddings, mind-blowingly stupid inspirational quotes and pectoral fins.
