Falstaff (English)

SUMMARY

Bristol Falstaff Society bring you Ibsen's masterpiece 'Hedda Gabler'. With the aid of Brian Friel’s poignant translation, we hope to reveal how this play is just as relevant and shocking as when it was originally written.

Often heralded as one of the most demanding female stage roles, Hedda struggles against a life of convention, manipulating the lives of those around her to devastating effect. In a manic 48 hours, relationships crumble and hopes for the future burn, but will Hedda emerge triumphant?

Brian Friel is one of Ireland’s most prolific living playwrights, his plays include 'Translations, Aristocrats, Faith Healer' and 'Philadelphia, Here I Come!' His adaptations include Chekhov’s 'Uncle Vanya' and 'Three Sisters'.

This translation was recently performed at The Old Vic in London.
