A family in Bedminster, Bristol struggles to survive during the Second World War. They suffer the dangers of the blackout and the indignities of a daily life on rations until strangers begin to appear in their world: an American sailor is found in the air raid shelter, and a mysterious foreign couple moves in two doors down the street. Harassed by the ongoing bombardments and unending sirens, soon they are at war with the Germans and themselves. Their lives are transformed completely on the evening of Good Friday, the eleventh of April, 1941. On this night, 180 Bristolians will lose their lives.
