Bristol University Operatic Society presents Carmen
A bold reinterpretation of Georges Bizet's opera with a newly written libretto set in the 1920s at the time of the Prohibition.
Mister Joe has moved to New York in search of a new start and is working as a barman at a cabaret club, where Carmen is the star of the show. He is torn between his love for the fiery Carmen and the sweet Mary-Jane from his life back home. He is soon embroiled in the murky underworld of the Prohibition speakeasies, whilst Carmen falls for the baseball player Oscar Miller. As this love triangle unfolds it soon emerges that Carmen’s fate is no longer in her own hands.
